Week 4 [2020-02-15]

We’re four weeks into our 2020 Tanzania trip.  It’s that peculiar point in time where it seems like an eternity since we’ve been home but from the work perspective, the time has gone shockingly fast.  Since the last blog post, Reneal Team Tanzania has completed all three of the MacBook lab installations.  The schools are just thrilled to have the MacBooks!  We are so grateful to VMware for the generous donation that made this work possible!  The Reneal Team has also visited eight other existing school labs for updates and repairs.  We’re down to just two more school visits before we start installations at our two new 2020 schools, Ngiresi Secondary School and Sambasha Secondary School.  We surely could not have done it without our Team here!

Meanwhile in the Philippines, Reneal Computer Technicians Lloyd Tuñacao and Ervin Formentera finished a mountain of work in Northern Cebu last week.  They capped off their time in the North by installing computers in the library at Bakhawan National High School.  The work at Bakhawan was made possible by Arm Corporation’s donation of desktop computers and the last of the monitors donated by Sound Family Medicine in Bonney Lake, WA back in 2018.

One big highlight this week was meeting with the US team from “A is for Africa”, a US non-profit located in Maryland.  We first met up with AIFA in late 2018.  This wonderful organization partners with Matim Primary School here in Arusha District.  AIFA sponsor a daily feeding program for the Matim students, and they have donated a computer lab, a library, A/V equipment, and nice walkways around the campus to rescue students from the seasonal mud and dust.  Reneal supported Matim and AIFA with a Reneal server for the computer lab.  For months we have looked forward to intersecting with the AIFA folks at Matim, and it was great to meet them face-to-face!

A couple of other highlights for me: meeting with the Form 1 and Form 2 Computer Club students at Kiranyi Secondary School on Tuesday and meeting Friday with the young women who will be the Computer Student Specialists helping maintain the new MacBook computer lab at Mateves Secondary School.  It is thrilling to see these students with a passion for learning about and using computers!
