Happy New (School) Year! [2019-06-09]

It’s the beginning of a brand new school year in the Philippines!  Students reported for the first day of classes on Monday.  However teachers have already been back to work for a couple of weeks now, between in-service training and the annual “brigade eskwela” week of cleaning and organizing.  And after a quiet summer, my Facebook Messenger began pinging steadily as the school year commenced.

Our “home school” of Compostela National High School reported an internet problem with the server dedicated to teacher use.  Oddly enough, the student server’s internet was working fine.  After several hours of troubleshooting with the IT teachers and with Lloyd, Reneal’s team lead in Cebu, we isolated the problem to the new modem from PLDT; only one port of four is actually providing internet.  Strange, but easily rectified with an 8-port network switch that now provides internet to the teacher server, student server, and library server.  Thanks Lloyd!

The next day the full Reneal Team Philippines was back at Compostela NHS.  Lloyd, Rhog, and Ervin checked out all of the computers running the Reneal system.  They made repairs and got everything ready for student use.  They had also been at Compostela during brigada eskwela to reinstall some computers in the IT lab.  We are very thankful to have these dedicated and talented technicians supporting us in Cebu!

This weekend I’ve been finalizing the beginning-of-the-year task list for Reneal Team Philippines.  After things settle out a bit from the initial chaos of enrollment and student sectioning, they will be visiting each school to help prepare the new student list for the year and to check out everything as they just did at Compostela NHS.

We also received word from Daanbantayan National High School, one of our very active schools, that the computer labs are going to be moved to a new building.  Right now this is scheduled for early August, so our Team will be heading to Northern Cebu to help with that.

We wish everyone in Cebu a year full of learning and progress!
