Biding our time [2020-05-22]

Not too much has changed in the month since my last blog post.  Reneal Team members in the Philippines and Tanzania continue to stand by, and schools in both countries remain closed for the time being.  Here in the US, we have continued preparations for our next set of projects in Tanzania while sheltering-in-place (more or less patiently) at home.

This past week, Reneal was very grateful to receive an additional donation of 19 laptops and 7 MacBooks from Immersion Corporation!  I traveled down to San Jose to pick up the units on Wednesday.  I removed the hard disks while I was there, to ensure protection of corporate information.  There were very few people around while I worked, and we all observed appropriate social distance and wore face coverings.  Thanks so much to Immersion Corporation, in particular to Sai Kim, Director of IT for Immersion, for facilitating the donation!

The next step will be doing additional testing on these units to prepare them for deployment.  We’ll also be acquiring power adapters on Ebay for these units.  Assuming that these units are all capable of working as thin clients, this allows Reneal to equip yet another public secondary school with a computer lab!
