Back to school [2020-07-04]

School Year 2020 resumed in Tanzania on Monday.  Form 6 (graduating) students are taking their national exams, while Forms 1-4 pick up their classwork where they left off in mid-March.  In order to make up for lost time, there will be no breaks for the remainder of the year.  It will definitely be a challenge for the students and teachers there.  This week Reneal School Liaison David Nyangaka traveled to Mwandet Secondary School to meet with Reneal’s six scholars in Form 3 as they restarted classes.

The Reneal scholars in Tanzania are boarding students, so Reneal pays for their room and board for the school year.  Reneal also provides uniforms, school supplies, items for dorm living, and personal care supplies like soap and lotion, as well as menstrual supplies for the female students.  Scholars receive a daily allowance (about 25 cents a day) for other wants and needs.  All of this adds up to about $450 for a new student and $385 for a returning student – a big expense for the typical family in rural Tanzania.  Reneal is excited to give these students an opportunity to excel academically without financial worry.

In his younger years, David taught physics and math at Mwandet.  He delights in returning to Mwandet to inspire and guide the Reneal Scholars.  We are so grateful for his efforts on behalf of Reneal to administer this program!
