2023 Phase 1 completed! [2023-08-31]

This news is a bit delayed, but Reneal Team Tanzania has finished installations of all of the new 2023 Phase 1 computer labs!  A million thanks to Apto Solutions (www.aptosolutions.com) for the generous donation of laptops to make these ten new computer labs possible!  Almost 9000 additional public high school students in Tanzania now have computers at their school.  We are grateful to the school and local officials for their cooperation, and for the leadership of Reneal Country Director David Nyangaka to help the schools prepare.

Neal has been doing a lot of work recently in support of the Australian NGO Teacher-in-a-Box (www.teacherinabox.org.au).  TIB has developed a server packed with educational content – much of the content is the same as that found on the Reneal server.  The TIB server is attached to a wireless router, so teachers at the school can access the server content with their phones and tablets with no internet connection required.  It is a nice complement to Reneal’s work.  Thanks to a donation of small desktops from Apto Solutions, we will be doing a pilot installation of the TIB concept at three schools in Arusha.

Neal has also been working with Kate Huth of TIB to install a Moodle course on the Reneal and TIB servers.  It’s been a lot of work for both of them, but we are hopeful it will provide new types of content and resources for teachers in Tanzania.  Neal has put it together so it should be easily shareable with others.

We are pleased to have another joint school planned with our partner organization Terrawatu (www.terrawatu.org) in 2023 Phase 2.  David was in Zanzibar this last week to attend a presidential showcase of special projects, including ICT-related activities.  He has additional upcoming appointments with other NGOs to see how Reneal can support and collaborate with these agencies.

Neal and I are preparing for our return to Tanzania next week.  We have a full slate of activities, and we are especially excited about being together again with Reneal Team Tanzania!
