2015 comes together [2014-12-07]

The Reneal IEO Board of Directors met yesterday.  We are so pleased to welcome Justin Thompson to the board!  Justin has a background in business, with experience both in a large technology company as well as a small locally-owned corporation.  The Reneal IEO board plays a vital role in advising, motivating, innovating, and oversight – we are so thankful for their support and effort.

The meeting agenda was a full one.  Neal and I gave a recap of the 2014 Tanzania projects, including lessons learned that we will use to revise our processes for 2015.  The board is very excited about the collaboration agreement with Arusha Node Marie (ANM), Habari Node Ltd, and the Arusha District Council.  This collaboration, along with the slate of strong candidate schools and the recent donation of laptops, has led the board to a decision to support four schools in Tanzania in 2015.  The plan will be posted soon on the Reneal IEO website.  Back in Tanzania, our colleagues and ANM volunteers Daniel and John have been busy installing the system on other server computers.  Their questions and ideas are invaluable input as Neal works to improve the system.  David, our key point of contact at the Arusha District Council, has been identifying used computer equipment that might be usable for the schools.

Neal and I also gave an update to the Reneal IEO board on the 2015 Philippines projects.  Our energetic intern Jade has been visiting the schools in preparation for our arrival in January.  Former student Jillian joined him on a trip north to Kawit National High School – see Jillian’s Facebook post here.  They also dropped by 2014 school Daanbantayan NHS to deliver some computer memory generously donated by the World Computer Exchange. Neal and I shipped another nine boxes of equipment to Cebu on Friday; we are hoping to add a sixth school to our existing plan of five schools in 2015 for the Philippines.

The Reneal IEO board also approved the 2015 budget.  We will be equipping ten schools with the low-cost computer system in 2015, in addition to other Reneal IEO programs.  We have an ambitious goal of raising almost $19,000 in donations in 2015 to support these activities in the Philippines and Tanzania.  Please see our How to Help page if you would like to be a part of this effort!  Donations can be sent directly to Reneal IEO at the address at the bottom of the page or contributed through Paypal.
