Brigada Eskwela [2016-06-03]

School Year 2016-2017 is just days away in the Philippines, so this week was the official Brigada Eskwela – a time for preparation of school campuses prior to the start of classes on June 13th.  Sir Jade visited Daanbantayan Wednesday to check on preparations for the September projects in Cebu.  While up north, he was able to help Sir Chester at Daanbantayan National High School open up the four newly-arrive balikbayan boxes and get the new flat panel monitors set up.

Sir Jade also welcomed two college students to Arcelo Memorial National High School, Rhog and Lloyd.  They will be doing their on-the-job training (OJT) under Sir Jade’s supervision.  The guys got off to a good start, opening up and blowing the dust out of the computers in the IT lab.  We are excited to have them as part of the Reneal IEO team and look forward to meeting them in person in September!  Sir Jade did his own OJT at Compostela National High School working with Ma’am Nerry and Sir Neal, so it’s exciting to see him taking these two young and energetic students under his wing to show them the ropes.

Reneal preparations at Tominjao NHS and Calape NHS in Daanbantayan have faced a reboot, because the DepEd NComputing systems just showed up in the last couple of weeks.  While we knew they were coming, the timeframe was not entirely clear.  Thankfully there is still plenty of time before September to get everything in place prior to our arrival.  Sir Jade promises “plug-and-play” for the Reneal server when it arrives!

Meanwhile, our School Liaison in Tanzania, David Nyangaka, has been investigating the current internet connectivity of some of the schools.  Through the iKnowledge project and Camara Tanzania, satellite internet is being offered through Africa Infinity.  We hope this program continues – it is truly a force multiplier for the Reneal system to also have internet access!
